CES has been laden with various new TVs and monitors, but it looks like HP has taken the crown with its new Omen X Emperium 65 gaming display. This 65-inch behemoth is part TV, part streaming media player, and frankly, an over-the-top solution for the hard core gamers out there. For the spec-heads out there, this one checks all the boxes, including 4K, HDR and G-Sync Ultimate certification. Basically, if you’re looking for a next-level gaming display for your living, look no further. But you’re going to have to pay for it.
HP delivers the ultimate living room gaming display
While the market is sure to be slim for a $5,000 gaming display, the new HP Omen X Emperium display is a sheer marvel to look at. And for those frustrated with refresh rates on today’s best TVs, HP has checked every box to ensure a ghost-free gaming experience. The 65-inch display supports full 4K resolution with a 120Hz refresh rate that can be pushed to 144Hz in some instances. That’s a big step forward from most TVs on the market today, where 60Hz is more of the norm. Add in G-Sync certification and HP promises that screen tearing will be a thing of the past.
HP has included a wide range of input options, to ensure that nearly every setup is covered. Console gamers can count on HDMI 2.0 and ARC (four total) with added DisplayPort and USB support for connecting PCs.
Shield TV integration takes it to the next level
While various TV manufacturers have integrated Roku and Chromecast functionality into their lineups, HP is taking it to a whole new level with its Omen display. The inclusion of integrated NVIDIA Shield TV functionality makes this an even more compelling release. We’ve waxed poetic about our love of NVIDIA’s streamer before, but it’s fully baked-in feature here opens up a whole new world of possibilities.
NVIDIA Shield delivers access to various streaming services, games and even Plex. While the new HP Omen display lacks a TV tuner, that’s basically a forgotten issue as soon as you power up the display. Shield integration delivers one of the most flexible streaming platforms out there. This forward-thinking approach by HP eliminates any concerns for gamers looking to access content when the controllers aren’t out.
A pricey look at the future?
Without a doubt, HP is looking ahead with its latest CES creation. That said, the $5,000 price is going to be a turnoff for many. You can expect February’s launch to be focused on gamers first and foremost. I’d love to see a more affordable version that maintains the refresh rate and NVIDIA Shield functionality in the future. For now, HP’s Omen X Emperium display will be likely limited to the high-end gamers among us.
