If you’ve never used Sling TV, it’s a great way to cut cable. Sling is the “#1 live TV streaming service” and starts at just $25 per month. New users on Roku will soon be able to enjoy certain Sling benefits at no cost with the company’s latest update. The biggest update here is the ability to try out on-demand content without entering an email or credit card information. Keep reading to find out more about this latest update for Roku users.
Sling now offers new Roku users a refined no-cost trial experience
If you’ve never used Sling TV before, and own a Roku, this is a great promotion. Prior to now, Sling would require you to sign up for an account and enter credit card information in order to use its service. Now, select Roku users can browse Sling and even enjoy some on-demand content without entering an email or credit card information, which is great for those who just want to check out the service without fully singing up.
The content available to guests is quite limited, however. You’ll be able to access the My TV screen, which will give you:
- Access free episodes of TV shows: By browsing ribbons on MyTV, you can watch episodes of popular shows like Shameless, The Big Interview with Dan Rather, Heartland and more at no cost and without signing up for an account.
- Purchase PPV Events and Movies: Browse popular content and pay-per-view events for purchase, such as upcoming UFC events and over 5,000 movie titles – no base subscription to Sling necessary.
- Subscribe to A La Carte Channels: Binge-watch shows on Showtime or catch NBA games with NBA League Pass, available for purchase without a base subscription. You can also purchase channels like Stingray Karaoke, Curiosity Stream, Docurama and more à la carte options on Sling TV. As the only live OTT service to allow you to purchase à la carte channels without subscribing to a base service, Sling makes it easy to stream all of your favorite content in the same interface.
That last benefit, subscribing to a la carte channels, is a huge one. If you only really want to watch NBA games, or just watch a single channel, you’ll be able to subscribe to one without having to buy an entire channel package.
Sling also launched a new search interface with this update, which will make it easier to find the content you want to watch. The new interface will automatically display “popular searches” and now specific search terms will be sorted into “Top Results,” “Movies,” “Shows,” and “Channels”.
The last (and probably one of the best) updates that Sling received was a “binge-watch” feature. This allows you to automatically start watching the next episode of your favorite show as long as it has either been recorded or is available for on-demand streaming. That means you don’t even have to pick up your remote to start the next episode, Sling will just do it automatically for you.
