After being previously teased back at CES 2018, Anker has now officially released its new PowerHouse 200 portable generator. This model is a follow-up to the previous generation model which we loved in our hands-on review. The latest version includes a USB-C port for the latest devices and compatibility with MacBooks. It’s also $100 less than the original model. Head below for more details.
Anker Powerhouse 200 hits the market with USB-C
We regularly feature Anker deals here at Electronicsforward. Over the past few years, this has become one of the most trustworthy brands out there. Not only is the quality top-notch, but Anker does a great job of undercutting first-party accessories on price.
Anker first announced the original PowerHouse a few years back. I reviewed it here, and have continued to use it faithfully in the meantime for outdoor movie nights, charging drone batteries and various other tasks. However, the first generation model is starting to show some age. Particularly its lack of USB-C makes it more vulnerable to be passed over in 2019 for upgraded options.
Thankfully the new PowerHouse 200 solves that particular concern as it sports a USB-C port, two USB-A ports along with an AC outlet and DC as well. Anker is dropping the internal battery down from a massive 120000mAh to 57600mAh, but with that comes a smaller footprint and lower price.
Built-in display and port-specific controls at an affordable price
Two features that we loved about the original version were its built-in display and port-specific charging controls. The LCD panel across the top relays how much overall charge is remaining on the battery and also details when the internal power supply is charging. It even denotes which ports are currently in-use directly above each designated charging space.
Above the DC, USB and AC ports you’ll find an on/off button. Just a single press activates the power for each port. This is ideal if you have multiple devices plugged in, but only want to enable power on certain ports. This is something that smaller, more traditional, portable power supplies lack.
Anker is offering its new Powerhouse 200 portable generator for $399.99 via its Amazon storefront. That’s a 20% price reduction from the previous generation model. It is available for purchase today.
Electronicsforward Take
I was a huge fan of the previous generation Powerhouse. I’m glad to see Anker come out with a new version that’s a bit more suitable for 2019. The addition of USB-C and a 20% decrease in price should make this a more compelling option for a wider market. Anker also wins in the design category. It’s new portable generator is far more stylish than comparable options on the market today.
It’s going to take convincing for some consumers to spend $400 on the Anker Powerhouse 200, but when considering the feature list, it seems like a solid buy at this point.
