TP-Link’s new Tapo smart video doorbell arrives with included chime at $120

TP-Link Tapo D230S1 Video Doorbell Camera

TP-Link’s Kasa and Tapo lineups deliver some of the most affordable smart home gear out there and its new video doorbell camera solution has now arrived stateside. The new Tapo Smart Video Doorbell Camera and included chime were unveiled earlier this year and are now available on Amazon as a pair at $120 shipped. For those already invested in the TP-Link Tapo Alexa- and Google Assistant-compatible ecosystem, this marks your first chance to expand your setup to the front porch. Head below for a closer look and more details.

The TP-Link Tapo D230S1 Video Doorbell Camera features 2K resolution at 5MP to provide real-time live feeds of what’s happening on your front porch without opening the door. Alongside a starlight sensor for low-light conditions, it also features color night vision and an embedded spotlight for “high-fidelity details and color at night.”

TP-Link is also employing head-to-toe visuals here to give users the complete picture of what awaits them outside. The camera supports an “ultra-wide” FOV (160-degree diagonal) and a 4:3 live view so users can check visitors as close as 1 meter away from head-to-toe.

In terms of battery life, TP-Link says the camera can run for up to 180 days before its 6,700mAh internal battery will need to be removed and recharged.

A few other notable features include an anti-theft alarm in case anyone tries to rip it off the wall, person and vehicle detection via AI tech, and multiple answer choices (two-way audio or smartphone quick responses). It is also one of only a few smart doorbells solutions with this sort of tech that also comes bundled with the indoor chime as well.

Scope out the features at a glance below:

  • 2K 5MP Live View: Always know what happens in front of your door through the Tapo app. With the starlight sensor and 2K 5MP resolution, check all the fine details captured even in low-light environments.
  • Color Night Vision: With the embedded spotlight and starlight sensor, Tapo D230S1 reveals high-fidelity details and color at night.
  • Head-to-Toe View: With the camera’s ultra-wide FOV(160° Diagonal), Tapo 4:3 live view ensures users can check visitors from head-to-toe as close as 1m, which shows more vertical details than other 16:9 doorbells.
  • Flexible Placement, Flexible Views: Different wedge choices allow users to make the doorbell suits more placement scenarios. Users can also use wedges to adjust the views.
  • Longer Battery Life: The rechargeable and removable battery with a low-power protocol extends your usage.
  • Smart AI Detection and Notification: Smart AI algorithms identify people and cars, and notify users as needed.
  • Multiple Ways to Answer: With two-way audio or a recorded quick response, communicate directly with your deliveries through the Tapo app.
  • Flexible Storage Choice: Save recorded videos on the hub-installed microSD card (up to 512 GB) or by using Tapo Care cloud storage services.
  • Anti-theft Alarm: Be alerted when someone trying to take the doorbell off with the anti-theft alarm function.
  • Water & Dust Resistant IP64: Operates well on rainy days and in damp environments.
