Microsoft set to shutter Xbox 360 Store for good, hundreds of classic games now up to 90% off

After Nintendo shut the doors on its Wii U and 3DS shops, we are just a couple months away from Microsoft doing the same thing for Xbox 360. As previously announced last summer, Xbox has a scheduled “change coming to the Xbox 360 experience,” which is a careful way of saying it will no longer operate the Xbox 360 Store on the console and the Xbox 360 Marketplace. This means Xbox will stop supporting the “ability to purchase new games, DLC, and other entertainment content” – don’t worry you’ll still be able to play all of the stuff you already own – come July…so it might be time to stock up. Best of all, Xbox is putting a massive selection of these older titles on sale from now through July 29 to help the cause. More details below.

Say farewell to the Xbox 360 Shop with up to 90% in savings

To celebrate the legacy of Xbox 360, Xbox said it is teaming up with its publishing partners to bring nostalgic gamers as many price drops and discounted titles from the old library as possible. These titles are available on the online store and the Xbox 360 Store on your now vintage console – you don’t need to dust the old console off to secure them, in other words.

Xbox 360 launched 18 years ago and was a generation-defining console that invited many people to jump into gaming for the first time and connect with friends around the world. We’re thrilled people continue playing their favorite Xbox 360 games on Xbox 360, or on newer consoles via Backward Compatibility for supported titles.

None of the actual 360 titles in question here are backwards compatible, so you’ll need to load them onto your account or console to play these versions. However, many of them have Xbox One versions that can be played on the Series X|S and their predecessors.

You can see a list of games right here that you can find with backwards compatibility, for reference.

As for the game’s seeing price reductions on the 360 Store right now, there’s a gigantic list of them right here courtesy of the Xbox team. That list is about to get even larger, twice in fact, as there are plans to officially add new deals to the collection on June 18, 2024, and again on July 16, 2024 – all of the prices you see right now, and in the next two updates, will “remain in place for each game through the 360 store closing on July 29, 2024.”
