Amongst all of the now live early Prime Day deals on Amazon in-house tech, the retail giant has just delivered a new 2024 iteration of the Echo Spot seemingly out of nowhere. This smart speaker is essentially an updated version of the previous-generation Spot, taking on a more elevated form-factor similar to what we see on the entry-level Echo Pop. The new 2024 Amazon Echo Spot features all of the Alexa voice control prowess you would expect, but adds a customizable nightstand or desktop-ready display to the experience. The new speaker seems to have just went live on Amazon with a discounted launch deal marking it down from the $80 MSRP to just $44.99 shipped for Prime members as part of its early Prime Day offers – there’s no telling how long this deal might last.
All-new 2024 Echo Spot
The All-new 2024 Echo Spot comes in three colorways, all of which are now on sale for $44.99 shipped. It is described as a “sleek smart alarm clock with Alexa and big vibrant sound.” The customizable display side of things allows users to see the time, weather, or song titles at a glance alongside connected smart home devices and more – it can be customized with your “favorite clock face and fun colors.”
So it, like much of the Echo speaker lineup, can control your connected Alexa smart home devices with your voice, acting as a hub of sorts:
Just ask Alexa to turn on lights or touch the screen to dim. Create routines that use motion detection to turn down the thermostat as you head out or open the blinds when you walk into a room.
All of the typical music streaming action is in place here as well as the ability to enjoy automated Alexa routines. “Set up an Alexa routine that gently wakes you with music and gradual light. Glance at the time, check reminders, or ask Alexa for weather updates.”
Echo Spot includes a 1.73” front-firing directional speaker that offers vibrant sound with clear vocals and deep bass. Ask Alexa to play your favorite song to enjoy a new colorful visual animation when music plays. When you want to skip a song, you can either ask Alexa, or quickly tap the display.
Amazon also wants users to know the new 2024 Echo Spot does not have an integrated camera for video calling or to deliver video feeds from connected smart home gear. However, voice-based “calling between Alexa devices including Announcements, Drop-in, and voice calls are supported.”
There are a host of interesting easter eggs to try out that, in the case of the Echo Spot, “the are 10 unique response animations:”
- “Alexa, thank you.”
- “Alexa, I love you.”
- “Alexa, good morning.’
- ‘Alexa, good afternoon.”
- “Alexa, good evening.”
- “Alexa, good night.”
- “Alexa, hi/hello.”
- “Alexa, goodbye.”
- “Alexa, how are you.”
- “Alexa, tell me a joke.”
It also makes weather reports a little more fun than usual with on-screen animations:
