First look at the new LEGO Technics 42172 McLaren P1 set joining the 1:8 supercar garage

First Look New Set!

Excitement is abuzz as always within the LEGO fandom, with plenty of reasons to look forward to the coming months – especially next month’s LEGO Star Wars releases! We’ve seen one new Technic kit so far in the August lineup, the 42174 Emirates Team New Zealand AC75 Yacht, and today, everybody’s brick-building company has revealed another that will join alongside it: the LEGO Technics 42172 McLaren P1 set. We’ve got plenty of info and pictures to share with you down below, with pre-orders not yet open.

Stacking up to 3,893 pieces, the LEGO Technics 42172 McLaren P1 set joins the illustrious garage of 1:8 scale supercars, which will no doubt put smiles on the faces of automotive fans and gearheads. Like the other models in this series, each car features a unique serial number that unlocks exclusive online content.

You’re getting quite the detailed build here, coming decked out with plenty of authentic recreations from the pioneering hyrbird speedster: a 7-speed gearbox with 2 shifter drums, suspension, adjustable rear wing, opening butterfly doors with an advanced mechanism, and a V8 piston engine. The curves and contours along the body are quite striking, mimicking the unique shape of the actual cars with impressive skill – and I especially love the orange paint job that has the subtle yellow undertones peaking out too. All-in-all, after an immersive building experience, the McLaren P1 stands 5.5 inches high, 23 inches long, and 9.5 inches wide.

This kit will officially release August 1, 2024 with prices locked in at $449.99 shipped. LEGO insiders who order the set between August 1 to 7 will also receive a buildable LEGO Technic McLaren P1 Logo as a gift with purchase (GWP) while supplies last.

It releases alongside ten other known sets: 41839 Message Board, 75385 Ahsoka Tano’s Duel on Peridea75388 Jedi Bob’s Starfighter75389 The Dark Falcon75392 Creative Play Droid Builder75393 TIE Fighter & X-Wing Mash-up, 75394 Imperial Star Destroyer75396 Desert Skiff and Sarlacc PitLEGO 75398 C-3PO, as well as the LEGO Technic 42174 Emirates Team New Zealand AC75 Yacht and the LEGO Ideas 21350 Jaws set.

We will update you with pre-order availability as it becomes available to us. In the mean time, please enjoy the photos below.
