Samsung has announced its new 990 EVO Plus SSD, an upgraded version of its hybrid storage solution with PCIe 4.0 support and the latest NAND technology. The brand’s new 990 EVO Plus will be available in 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB capacities when it goes on sale this Fall at Samsung’s online store and other retailers like Amazon, with the suggested retail price of $109.99 for the 1TB model, $184.99 for the 2TB model, and $344.99 for the 4TB model. Head below for more details and a closer look at this new SSD.
Samsung’s new 990 EVO Plus SSD launches with speeds of up to 7,250 MB/s
Samsung’s new 990 EVO Plus SSD supports PCIe 4.0 x4 and PCIe 5.0 x2 standards, and it offers sequential read and write speeds up to 7,250 MB/s and 6,300 MB/s, respectively. These speeds, in case you’re wondering are up to 50% faster than the 990 EVO module. Samsung specifically toutes the “industry-leading” random read and write speeds of 1,050K and 1,400K IOPS for the 4TB variant. This performance boost — according to Samsung — is “enabled by the latest Samsung 8th generation V-NAND technology and 5-nanometer (nm) controller.” What’s also interesting about this particular SSD is that it offers up to 73% better power efficiency over the 990 EVO model, thanks to the brand’s new nickel-coated heat shield.
The new 990 EVO Plus SSD is also equipped with Samsung’s TurboWrite 2.0 tech to improve transfer speeds and reduce lags during file transfers. This is particularly useful for those who deal with large files and work with high-resolution videos. It should also help you with gaming, so you might want to consider the new 990 EVO Plus for your new or existing gaming rig.
Lastly, it is worth noting that Samsung’s new 990 EVO Plus SSD also supports Samsung’s Magician software, which offers a suite of optimization tools to ensure you get the best results. This software works with almost all modern Samsung drives, and it helps users with the data migration process, data protection, drive health monitoring, and more.
Samsung’s new 990 EVO Plus SSD, as we mentioned previously, will be available this Fall in 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB capacities, with prices starting at $110.
