Moment debuts new SuperCage iPhone rig with HDMI/USB-C hub for content-creators [Presale deals]

Reg. $200 $160

Moment, a brand well known around for delivering iPhoneography and mobile filmmaker gear, is expanding its lineup of accessories with a new pro-grade phone mount. The new Moment SuperCage transforms your iPhone 16 (as well as other smartphones) into more of a pro-grade video camera rig with a few interesting features, like an onboard USB-C hub. Now available for presale with early bird pricing, we’ll dive into more details below.

New Moment SuperCage smartphone mount with onboard USB-C hub

Devices like the new SuperCage from Moment certainly aren’t a new thing, we have seen plenty of these from other brands and even Moment itself. But the new SuperCage is looking to differentiate itself from much of the competition with an onboard USB-C hub

This hub includes four USB-C ports as well as 4K HDMI, an SD card slot, and audio jacks for a mic and headphones – basically everything all but the most high-tech and professional camera operator would need.

As I’m sure you can imagine, this allows the rig to link directly to external monitors, audio recording/monitoring gear, bonus storage by way of SD cards, and to leverage the USB-C port on iPhone and smartphones that have one – you can power the phone with portable power banks as well as connect portable SSDs and the like to shoot full-quality 4K Apple ProRes footage.

We included a custom array of connections rated for pro-level accessories and codecs, like Apple ProRes LOG. Plus we made sure each of the connectors go well beyond what phones require in charging pass-through and data transfer, which means this is a hub you can count on for years to come.

Here’s a quick rundown of the ports directly from Moment:

  • Phone Connection – Your USB-C phone connects to the hub with a custom high-transfer ribbon cable that enables both power and data transfer.
  • Power Port – A dedicated USB-C PD port with 100W pass-through power to charge your phone and power your accessories. It can also be a data input if needed.
  • SSD or SD Cards – Connect an SSD through our USB-C 3.2 port that provides 10 Gb/s transfer speeds OR use the integrated SD 4.0 card slot with up to 250Mb/s write speeds (V90 card recommended).
  • HDMI Out – Use the full-size 4K 60Hz HDMI port for video monitoring.
  • Mics or Headphones – a 3.5mm input and output to connect lav mics and headphones.
  • Extra Port – an extra USB-C 3.2 ports for you to attach additional gear.

The SuperCage is, of course, also a cage that is loaded up with NATO and Arca rails in order to attach your rig to additional mounts and tripods, and kit your SuperCage with other filmmaking accoutrements.

We designed SuperCage to be one continuous open rail profile with NATO compatibility on the sides and top, and Arca on the base. So you can keep using your tried-and-true accessories, grips, and tripods. We’ve also included dozens of additional mounting points – (4) x 3/8”-16 thread, (4) x cold-shoe mounts, and (39) x 1/4”-20 threads.

The new Moment SuperCage is now being funded on Kickstarter ahead of its scheduled delivery this December. That also means there’s some early bird deals for folks getting in early – you can secure a SuperCage for $160 as opposed to the $200 MSRP it will eventually debut at. It is also worth noting that Moment is offering a BasicCage as well – it is essentially the same thing just without the onboard hub – at $103, or 20% off the eventual MSRP.

Needless to say, we are not responsible for the outcomes of crowdfunding campaigns like this one, but this a brand we have come to know and trust if that counts for anything.
