After debuting in mid-August as some of the most affordable smart video doorbells from brands we trust and feature around here, the new TP-Link Tapo D120 and D225 have now hit new all-time lows on Amazon. The more affordable TP-Link Tapo D120 as now dropped from the regular $70 price tag down to $46.99 shipped and the dual-powered (more on this below) Tapo D225 has now fallen to $79.99 shipped from the regular $100 price tag. We did see launch deals at $51 and $85 back in August, but today’s offers undercut both to deliver the best we have seen yet.
The main difference between the TP-Link Tapo D120 and the higher-end D225 is the latter’s power capabilities and the subsequent recording options it enables – a “dual-powered smart video doorbell with 24/7 continuous recording.”
Either way, you’re looking at rather capable front door solutions with all of the usual live video action and peace of mind they come with. These models deliver AI person detection at “no additional cost or subscription” and handy local storage so you don’t need pay for that either. They also feature at least 6,400mAh rechargeable battery power as well as compatibility with the popular Alexa and Google Assistant smart home gear you might already have to support voice commands. Color night vision, built-in spotlights to help the cause in low light conditions, and Wi-Fi chime functions (both models ship with a separate door chime unit) round out the highlights.
