Among some other upcoming 2025 smart TVs, Samsung is showcasing its new The Frame Pro at CES 2025. The brand’s frame-style TVs have been popular among folks and competitors, often imitated and usually at much lower price points, but Samsung is seemingly going the other direction with an even more feature rich (sort of) mini-LED model with an even better fresh rate.
Samsung debuts new 144Hz The Frame Pro
Samsung has inked a deal with Art Basel to make The Frame the “official art display of the globally celebrated event” alongside a major expansion of its Art Store to better support its frame-style TVs in between Netflix binging, gaming, and movies. But most of the big-time updates to The Frame Pro are focused on just making it a better TV when you’re actually watching it.
This time around Samsung is leveraging mini-LED for its new pro model…sort of. Reports suggest that it’s some kind of hybrid mini-LED approach. While it should in theory produce something much closer to the local dimming zones and true blacks of a typical mini-LED smart TV, Samsung has implemented mini LEDs at the bottom of the panel as opposed throughout, or behind it. Again, this is likely to produce a better viewing experience overall, but it remains to be seen how close to actual mini-LED action it actually gets. Ssmsung says it has “advanced Neo QLED picture quality.”
Alongside a similar matte display approach to make the art work in between shows pop, Samsung has finally upped the refresh rate from the 120Hz on the now previous, or standard models, to 144Hz – a welcomed addition for sure, but likely at a price.
The Frame Pro is also doing away with the tethered connection between the display and the breakout box that houses the TV’s connectivity option – it is now wireless by of the Wi-Fi 7 Wireless One Connect Box. Depending how you had it setup, disguising the required cable on previous versions of The Frame was…a thing, but it isn’t anymore – the new wireless breakout box is said to work at distances of up to 10 meters even with obstacles in the way.
There are also some of the major AI implementations much of the new Samsung TVs will benefit from here – it can provide you with recipes of on-screen dishes, live translations in up to seven languages on live broadcasts, and there’s even a Click to Search button on the remote that can tell who the actors are on screen, geographic details for a particular scene, or even serve up details on the apparel you’re seeing.
- Click to Search offers instant information about what’s on screen — whether identifying an actor or exploring displayed content — all without disrupting the viewing experience.
- Live Translate, powered by an on-device AI translation model, eliminates language barriers with real-time subtitle translations on live broadcasts, allowing viewers to enjoy their content in up to seven languages.
- Generative Wallpaper transforms screens into dynamic, personalized art canvases, leveraging generative AI to create images tailored for any taste or occasion.
The new Samsung The Frame Pro is scheduled to begin shipping later this spring, but no pricing details have been released as of yet – we are expecting it to be pricey endeavor if the existing lineup is any indication.
