Alienware is reviving its iconic Area-51 gaming desktop and it gave us our very first look at the new machine at CES 2025. The new Area-51 desktop features an all-new chassis, which builds on the Aurora R16 design, and it’s powered by the latest processors and graphics cards from Intel and NVIDIA, respectively. This new desktop will cost an eye-watering $4,499 when it goes on sale in Q1 2025, but you can expect some cheaper configurations to make their way into the market at a later time. Head below to learn more about the kind of specifications you can expect to see at this price point.
Alienware Area-51 Desktop now official with stylish new design
The all-new Alienware Area-51 desktop flaunts a futuristic design with a unique ring-like LED running along the front of its chassis. It features a clear side panel to let you check out the components, while the rest of the case is made of metal for a premium fit and finish. As far as the specifications are concerned, you can expect the new Area-51 desktop to be powered by Intel’s new Core Ultra 7 or Ultra 9 200S processors, and NVIDIA’s brand-new 50-series graphics cards.
The highlight of the new Area-51, however, is that it has a standard ATX-compliant design, meaning you’ll be able to swap out the existing components for the ones that are readily available on the market. Being able to upgrade things like the motherboard and PSU truly makes this a consumer-friendly machine, something which you can say about the previous or existing Alienware desktops that use proprietary components. You’ll still need a conversion kit to combine the AlienFX board with third-party motherboards and make things like lighting, fan controls, and front I/O work, but it’s an improvement nonetheless.
Alienware is equipping this desktop with up to a 1,500W 80 Plus Platinum PSU with the new ATX12VO PSU standard for future proofing, and it’s also adding either a 240mm or a 360mm liquid cooler depending on the SKU you pick. Other highlights here include up to 64GB DDR5 RAM and up to 8TB PCIe SSD for fast storage.
This stylish new Alienware desktop is far from the only cool thing we’ve seen so far from this year’s CES 2025 show floor. We’ve highlighted a bunch of other standouts and our favorites over at the CES 2025 hub, so be sure to check them out.
