To offer further solutions in the backup power market, Jackery is launching its newest and most advanced home backup model to date – with tons of savings for folks who get in on the action early. Now available for pre-order, the Jackery’s Explorer 5000 Plus Portable Power Station has been designed as “the lightest indoor generator in its class, and ensures people will stay connected, powered, and secure, even in the most difficult and unexpected circumstances.” Joining the ranks of larger capacity models with some truly monstrous expansive capabilities, this new unit promises enough power for home backup, EV charging, RV support, and more. Head below to get a breakdown of what to expect and how you can score up to $1,699 in free gear along with your pre-order purchase.
To start, like all of Jackery’s latest power stations, the Explorer 5000 Plus has been upgraded with LiFePO4 batteries for a rated 4,000 life cycles for longer-term reliability. It will arrive with a 5,040Wh capacity that features modular expansion options when equipped with the appropriate extensions and add-ons, letting you invest over time up to a massive 60,000Wh. The power station alone can pump out up to 7,200W of power to cover powering appliances galore, with that output doubling to 14,400W when connected to second unit, giving it more than enough power to power your entire home for days on end (which is based on the daily average usage of 30kWh per day).
Safety, sustainability and convenience are at the forefront of every solar generator we produce, and the 5000 Plus delivers at every turn. Whether you need to power your entire home during an outage or emergency, need additional power while embracing outdoor living or reliable everyday power, the 5000 Plus provides the performance, safety and convenience that people need.”
Jack Sun, CEO of Jackery
Not only does this new power station meet the load demands of 120V devices and appliances, like standard electric tools and small appliances, but it can also handle larger 240V applications like dryers, water pumps, ovens, and more – on top of recharging RV batteries and electric vehicles too. It sports 12 versatile output ports to accomplish this array of needs, including four AC ports, two USB-A ports, two USB-C ports, as well as some expansion ports, DC ports, and a cigarette lighter port.
Speaking of dual voltage, this model also delivers dual-voltage solar charging, meaning that with the right setup, you can utilize high-voltage rooftop solar panels alongside the brand’s portable panels – offering compatibility with any that use an MC4 connector and hitting recharging speeds up to 4,000W and refilling the battery in about 1.7 hours.
As a standalone power station, you can utilize the two new 500W portable solar panels to recharge the battery in 6.5 hours, while a standard wall outlet can achieve 100% capacity in 3.5 hours. And if you connect it to your home via the new Smart Transfer Switch that is releasing along with it, you can get a full battery in 1.7 hours.
When sudden blackouts occur, through the smart transfer switch, backup power switchover is instantaneous thanks to its UPS mode, so much so that you’ll likely not notice at all – plus, ensuring (along with the many safety features built right in) that sensitive devices around your home like computers and other essentials go uninterrupted. Along with the usual array of smart controls, this UPS mode is activated through the companion app.
As I mentioned, there’s a whole bunch of built-in safety features along the same lines that we’ve seen with the new v2 models, with it being the third model to be given Jackery’s ChargeShield 2.0 alongside AI-driven variable speed charging tech, giving it 62 layers of protection during charging, discharging, and its battery management system. It also comes fireproof, shockproof, and is rated with IPX4 water-resistant certifications.
Lastly, while the Explorer 5000 Plus was designed with whole-home backup at the forefront of concerns, it offers features like peak shaving and valley lifting for off-grid living and grid arbitrage. This allows it to balance out your energy consumption, better reducing your energy bills while also alleviating pressure on the grid your home sits on.
