A New Hope: Japanese accessory maker announces follow-up to the wildly popular R2-D2 virtual keyboard

Following the massive success of the R2-D2 virtual keyboard, Japanese accessories maker “imp.” has announced the next generation of this popular Star Wars accessory. However, this time it will be the Dark side that provides the keyboard.

Unfortunately, the original R2-D2 virtual keyboard is long gone, although some models can be found on eBay. This go around, imp. will be utilizing R2-Q5 astromech droid to project the keyboard for users. Highlighted by a slick black and orange design, this keyboard will be compatible with Mac OS X, Windows 7/8 and iOS devices. It will arrive with many of the same sound effects that the original R2-D2 model had.

The R2-Q5 virtual keyboard from imp. will be available via Amazon Japan for ¥39,000 or roughly $325. It is slated for release on May 4th, good luck getting your hands on one of these though as only 500 are slated to be made.
