Fluance mixes mid-century design with Bluetooth technology in its new Hi-Fi system

It seems like we’ve been inundated with Bluetooth speaker offerings over the last year. Even worse, each new release seems to be a redesign of another model already on the market. Finding a way to standout from the crowd is becoming increasingly difficult as established brands are seeing hundreds of new names enter the space.

Fluance, an audio company up in Ontario, has released a new addition to its line-up of hi-fi equipment called the Fi70 High Fidelity Music System. Instead of going the route of traditional portable speakers, it has opted for an all-in-one system that mixes mid-century looks with modern technology. You’re either going to love or hate the design…

Let’s take a look at Fi70’s internal specifications. Fluance uses Bluetooth + EDR with aptX support for connectivity. There is also a 3.5mm and optical Toslink input on the back alongside a 2.1A USB charging port that can also be used as a media source.

Inside you’ll find two of each of the following: 1-inch soft dome silk tweeters, 5-inch woven glass drivers and 8-inch woofers. The whole system is powered by a 280W amplifier that, according to Fluance, delivers a “concert hall” experience. There was a concerted effort to ensure that the Fi70 was able to fit every note that gets thrown at it, which is reflected in the system’s ability to hit notes as low as 30Hz.

Back to the design. As we noted at the top, Fluance has steered clear of traditional long and skinny speaker systems and has opted for an oval shape that reminds us of something you’d see in Mad Men. The front of the speakers leaves the internals uncovered while the sides are wrapped in three different wood finishes. You can opt for natural walnut, black ash or bamboo finishes depending on your personal preference. Fluance proudly proclaims that the Fi70 has an “esoteric” design and doesn’t shy away from the notion that not every individual will enjoy its look.

Don’t be fooled by the pictures, this speaker is a true hi-fi system and is not portable in any sense of the word. There is no internal battery and it has a total weight of 81 pounds. This isn’t the first high-end Bluetooth speaker that we’ve seen with eyes on breaking out of the crowded $100-$300 price point. Bang & Olufsen just recently released a new soundbar system with a solid aluminum design.

The Fluance Fi70 High Fidelity Music System is available for purchase today at Amazon for $499.99 shipped.
