Review: Incase and surfing legend Kelly Slater team up for the ultimate GoPro-focused backpack

GoPro has enjoyed a massive amount of success over the last few years as its name has become synonymous with action cameras. Because of that popularity, the accessory market has boomed as well. We’ve already rounded up the best gear for your GoPro in a separate post. Now the question is, how do you manage it all? We recently got our hands on the new Kelly Slater Action Pack Bundle from Incase. The iconic surfer hooked up with one of our favorite brands to release a kit with GoPro users in mind. Head below for a full breakdown.

DESIGN

The first time you set on eyes on this bag, it’s evident that its subtle stylings that were influenced by Kelly Slater but executed by Incase. That flat “Dolphin Gray” finish doesn’t scream look at me but a closer view reveals small details that show the thought behind the product. Like many Incase products, the Action Cam Pro Pack has a simplistic design. The bag is water-resistant, which is supported by 1680D ballistic nylon, 600D coated poly and coated zippers.

Adjustable straps and buckles can be found on each side for a tight fit against the body during use. A padded back plate offers support and protection from any pointed contents inside the bag. Each internal pocket is coated for an “extra layer of water resistance” according to Incase. One of the coolest features on the outside is a built-in mount for your GoPro, which is perfect for capturing POV-style footage on-the-go.

Opening the Pro Pack reveals an Incase-exclusive “Aqua Tiger Camo” print that ranges from black, blue and purple hues. According to Incase, this is meant to reflect the “ocean’s surface and the interplay of light and the dark at dusk.” Description aside, it’s a nice change-up from the typical bright colors that line so many of the bags we’ve seen.

STORAGE

From the outset, one of the Action Cam Pro Pack’s most notable characteristics is its wealth of storage. There is no shortage of compartments, zippers, sleeves and latches on this kit. If you’re considering this type of storage solution for you gear, chances are you have a number of GoPro accessories. Incase has done a great job of maximizing storage space without creating an overwhelming product. It’s a fine balance between room for plenty of gear and comfort. The Pro Pack excels at this challenge.

There is a large storage compartment in the center of the bag, which has a large undefined space. That’s perfect for storing a wide range of items from a laptop to larger gimbals commonly used with a GoPro. Incase includes adjustable velcro compartments for organizing smaller accessories. Need more? The dividers are easily removed for more space.

A half-moon zipper at the top of the bag reveals a 8-inch by 6-inch space. This is a great spot for your keys, wallet or frequently accessed items while you’re shooting. Because the middle of the bag is a large open space, the confined storage here is handy. The majority of the bag is lined with fleece that ensures your gear isn’t scratched.

Incase doesn’t mess around here, it’s a bag meant for storing your gear. The interior isn’t littered with extra pockets or sleeves. There is plenty of space for organizing your items without being limited to pre-existing confines. If you’re someone, like myself, who uses other products to keep your gear tidy, you’ll appreciate this product.

ADD-ONS

Aside from the Action Cam Pro Pack, Incase and Kelly Slater have partnered to design a few other GoPro accessories. First is the Protective Cover for GoPro Hero ($30). It’s a simple sleeve made of silicone that slides over your camera. It’s a remake of another product Incase offers but has been color matched to complement with the rest of the Kelly Slater lineup. If you’re on-the-go frequently taking your camera out, this is a nice way to keep it safe from the elements.

Incase also has two other zippered storage pouches for keep your camera and gear organized. The H20 Mono Kit ($50) offers a hard case with a foam cut-out inside for a GoPro. It also doubles as a storage solution for sensitive accessories like lenses. The H20 Accessory Organizer ($50) is like a Dopp Kit for your camera. It’s a nice size bag with plenty of room to keep cables and other accessories that are not water friendly. Both make a solid addition to any setup.

CONCLUSION

All of the gear mentioned in this review is available in the Kelly Slater Action Pack Bundle for $329.95. At that price, you’re getting an upgraded experience over a typical backpack from a quality brand name. Even better, all of the gear that is included is designed specifically for GoPro. There’s a peace of mind that comes with using accessories that are meant for your device.

The fit and finish of each piece is of the highest quality. In typical Incase fashion, the look is edgy but doesn’t stand out. It’s the perfect blend of modern fashion and a well-thought-out design. If you’re in the market for a GoPro solution, this is the bag that I’d recommend to anyone. It’s well worth the money.
