We have already brought you the best gift ideas for travel, inside the car, music makers, techies and more, and today we are taking a quick look at some of the best options for the gamer on your list. Much like musicians, gamers can be tough to buy for, especially considering they more than likely already have the game you were going to buy them, not to mention how expensive some titles, add-ons, controllers and more can be.
This list will focus on items that just about any gamer can enjoy whether it be a simple charger to keep their controllers juiced up, or some nostalgic art/swag to celebrate some of gamings most iconic personalities. And there are several options that aren’t going to empty out your pocket starting at around $6:
PowerA PS4/Xbox One Dual Controller Charger:
Officially licensed by Sony and Microsoft, PowerA makes a well rated dual controller charger for both PS4 and Xbox One. These are a great add-on to anyone’s console set-up allowing controllers to be charged away from the machine itself, and to ensure there is never any down time. It’s also much more tidy than having your controllers loose in the TV stand or on the table.
At around $20 Prime shipped, with a USB cable included for the PS4 version, you really can’t go wrong here. As another option, we also like the Nyko chargers which start at around the same price.
Nintendo Coffee Table Books:
Just about anyone interested in gaming has some tie to where it all began. And the Playing With Power coffee table book is a great way to celebrate that. It looks great on display and is filled with interesting facts, secrets and art from Nintendo’s yesteryear. “Playing With Power: Nintendo NES Classics Collector’s Edition is a compilation of the best maps, cheat codes, guides, and articles from Nintendo Power Magazine. You’ll find the fastest warp pipes in Super Mario Brothers 1, detailed walkthroughs for Mario 3, and fascinating retrospectives on a variety of other classic NES games.”
Playing With Power: Nintendo NES Classics $30
Another fantastic Nintendo coffee table book is the The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia hardcover. “This handsome hardcover contains never-before-seen concept art, the full history of Hyrule, the official chronology of the games, and much more! “ Either way, that classy cover just looks amazing on the table!
The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia $25
Super Mario Level 1-1 Poster Set:
World 1-1 in the original Mario Bros. will forever hold its place in gaming history, so why not get the whole thing for your wall! This is a five poster set depicting World 1-1 in all its glory spread across 5 seperate posters. That’s about 15 feet of epic 8-bit history! “The five posters are designed to line up perfectly, and let you recreate World 1-1 as it exists in the game, on your own wall or surface.“ we have even more Nintendo art options in the honorable mentions section below.
Super Mario Level 1-1 Poster Set $13
Gaming Mugs:
There’s nothing quite like a hilarious mug on Christmas morning, and ThinkGeek has all your gaming needs covered. Some of the best ones include the Molded Fallout Pip Boy, Color Changing Mario Bros. and these awesome Pokémon Poké ball Mugs. As mentioned on the listing, please do not throw the Poké ball mug, it’s a mug not a Poké ball.
They range from between $6 and $20 at ThinkGeek where you’ll find even more from Star Wars, Harry Potter, Batman, Mega Man and even Ghostbusters. Amazon also has a nice list of options like this classic 2-pack of heat changing Pac-Man mugs.
Overwatch & The Last Guardian:
I know I said it is almost impossible to buy games for people, but I have a couple suggestions that will certainly go a long way regardless. Both of which you can get at a discount right now. Ok, if the person is into high octane shooters with as much as death per second as humanly possible, I suggest Overwatch. The playful cartoon aesthetic mixed with high-paced arena shooter action, is sure to please the headshot addict on your list. Blizzard’s over the top shooter has one of the most interesting and extensive character rosters we have ever seen. Oh, and that Game of the Year 2016 nod at the Game Awards was pretty nice too!
Overwatch on Xbox One/PS4: $40 (Reg. $60)
On the other hand, for the more thoughtful PlayStation gamer on your list, get them The Last Guardian. The artistic and gorgeous puzzle platformer from Fumito Ueda has kept gamers waiting for 8+ years, but it’s finally here, and it’s spectacular. Sure it has its problems, but the relationship between the boy and the giant cat/dog/bird beast he befriends is like nothing I’ve experienced in gaming ever before!
The Last Guardian: $60 or $48 w/ Prime
Honorable Mentions:
Honorable mentions go to this The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Lenticular 3D Shadow Box art for $14.99 and these Mario Brothers Canvas Art prints for $19.99. These NES-style iPhone 6/7/Plus cases from $9 Prime shipped are awesome too!
