Colorware will now let you create the Nintendo Switch of your dreams… for a cost

I love my Nintendo Switch, but I’ll be the first to admit that Nintendo’s decision to play it safe with colors was a mistake. The gray looks good, the neon stands out, but I can’t tell you how quickly I would have dropped money on a red and black setup. Now Colorware is bringing that to reality, but it’s going to cost you…

Colorware is a company which offers two primary services. Such as skins for various devices like smartphones, one of which I enjoyed on my Google Pixel XL. The other, however, is more impressive, custom painted devices. Colorware will take apart a device completely and give it a paint job of your choosing, and they’re now offering that service for the Nintendo Switch.

Currently, this is only available for units purchased directly from Colorware. On the bright side, these units are technically in stock (shipping in 6-8 weeks) if you’ve been hunting, but the downside is that there’s a premium of $200 on top of the standard $299 price tag.

For the extra cash, though, you’ll get a fully custom paint job with choices from 58 different colors in glossy or matte finish. You can customize the backplate, logo, kickstand, and the individual Joy-Con controllers. You can even change the color of the dock if you fork over an extra $50.

It’s definitely not cheap, but if you’re looking for a custom Nintendo Switch color, this is the only route at your disposal since skins aren’t a viable option due to the device’s finish. Personally, I’ll just be here drooling over the black, white, and red Switch I made on Colorware’s site
