I for one have never been a big fan of covering up Apple’s gorgeous product designs with cases and sleeves. Unfortunately, these kinds of devices are just too big an investment to leave out in the open to get scratched and scuffed, or even worse, damaged. Choosing which cover-up to suit my needs and tastes isn’t easy to say the least, so I’m generally quite tough on product reviews in this category.
While I’ve personally opted to go with one of Apple’s slim-line leather cases for my iPhone, I decided to take a closer look at the MUJJO MacBook sleeves for protecting my coveted notebooks…
The Dutch designer is responsible for quite a large lineup of cases, sleeves and more for just about all of Apple’s computers and phones. Many of which are made of high-quality vegetable-tan leather with wool felt interiors and accents. It is immediately easy to tell this is a company that focuses on quality and a dedication to its creative and functional design approach throughout its product range.
MUJJO recently sent over the Carry-On Folio Sleeve for the 12-inch MacBook and the Leather/Wool Sleeve which is available for the 13 & 15-inch MacBook Pro models.
Right off-the-bat, MUJJO’s attention to detail was apparent. Both models shipped in high-quality canvas bags adorning the company logo. While it may seem trivial to some, in this day-in-age I expect high-quality packaging that represents the product its carrying – especially at this price point – and MUJJO nailed it here.
First up, we’ll take a look at the 12-inch MacBook Carry-On Folio Sleeve. On the outside we get a two-tone approach with MUJJO’s dark colored wool felt on one side and black full-grain leather on the other. The leather hand strap, which is fixed to the bag with custom-machined gun-metal hardware, along with the leather zipper pulls are a nice touch here. The leather exterior does offer some level of water resistance, but I wouldn’t get to courageous in the rain if I was you.
The inside is lined with wool felt and has a few pockets for storing thin accessories and documents. It’s a snug fit for the MacBook itself, so don’t think you’re going to get a charger or something in there. A cable, business cards, few documents, and other things of that nature will fit just fine, which is perfect for my needs.
This model immediately caught my eye for its business-like briefcase approach. I can easily carry my laptop and a few thin accessories into meetings, which is more or less exactly what I was looking for in a MacBook sleeve. I may have preferred a completely squared silhouette aesthetically speaking, as opposed to having that small indent along the top, but there were no functional set backs with the design.
Next up, we’re looking at the lesser expensive MUJJO Sleeve for 13 and 15-inch MacBook Pro models. This is one of the company’s most classic designs but has been updated down to every last element. This model features the same wool exterior as the Carry-On but this time using the fold over flap closure to showcase the company’s full-grain leather.
While at first the the flap design turned me off, after using the sleeve for a week or so now, it has defiantly grown on me. Just like the Carry-On Sleeve above, it will easily have you looking right in a business meeting or just at the coffee shop to get some work done on-the-go. Both models are slim enough to fit inside all three of my larger backpacks with dedicated notebook pouches.
The MUJJO Carry-On Sleeve for the 12-inch MacBook goes for $111.97 shipped and the Sleeve for 12, 13 and 15-inch MacBook/Pro sells for between $65.28 and $69.95.
