Getting your kids to play, learn and invent all at the same time is the goal of every parent. It’s not always easy to find projects that are fun and educational. STEM toys aim to teach kids fundamentals of science and technology, but not all of them are intuitive or at the right level for your child. The Boson building kit is a set of modular electronic blocks that can currentlybe funded on Kickstarter. The blocks are designed for young inventors, educators and tinkerers alike. The best part about these blocks is that no coding is required. You just plug them in and start playing!
The Boson kit breaks down complicated circuits into simple and functional modules that are easy to understand. In the kit, you won’t find the need to solder any components and like we said before, no coding is required either.
In the video (below) you’ll see the blocks used as a STEM classroom teaching tool. Boson modules have built-in magnets and can be used with screws and Velcro. They can be fixed on a wide variety of materials such as paper, wood, fabric, whiteboards or even your own LEGO creations. Boson modules can be used to make cool robots, perform science experiments, and demonstrate circuit principles. There are several different BOSON Kits to choose from and they come with project cards to get you started. The kits are based on the Intel Curie platform and each module is color coded for easy learning.
These building sets strongly reinforce the idea of a future that puts robotics front and center in the classroom, as STEM education becomes even more crucial to helping future generations manage an era heavily reliant on technology.
[Science] is more than a school subject, or the periodic table, or the properties of waves. It is an approach to the world, a critical way to understand and explore and engage with the world, and then have the capacity to change that world…
— President Barack Obama
With 37 days left to go in its campaign, the BOSON Building Kit still has a ways to go to meet its funding goal. You can get in on the Early Bird Special, pledge $39 and you’ll get 10 blocks that let you create at least 8 projects (suitable for age 6+). There are also a few higher priced tiers that get you more blocks with a wide variety of functions. Shipping is expected to start in September of 2017.
