This Vintage Vinyl Bluetooth Speaker is actually made out of reclaimed records

There is no question that you get an unmatched rich music quality from playing vinyl records. The company Vinylux firmly believes this too, and are building a new Bluetooth speaker (funded by Kickstarter) that is actually made out of reclaimed records. While there is no proof it will actually sound better based on that fact alone, it does allow for a deliciously retro spin into the mix!

What the company does is take an actual vinyl record and shape it to look like a horn loudspeaker, while the rest of the body highly resembles a classic gramophone. Vinylux designed the speaker’s bent plywood enclosure and selected some high-end internal components to ensure the “best acoustic response”, including a top-of-the-line coaxial speaker driver.

You can’t drop the needle on these records, but they’ll play your entire digital music collection in analog-inspired style

The creator of the independent design company (based out of Brooklyn, NewYork), Jeff Davis, first started by creating bowls, clocks, coasters and more items out of vinyl records. One day after being asked over and over by his customers if his creations could still actually play (the answer being no by the way); He got the idea to create his Bluetooth speaker out of vinyl so that in a matter of speaking the vinyl was still being used to produce music. Davis then enlisted the help of UncommonGoods‘ product development team to create the “retro-futuristic feel” of the Vintage Vinyl Bluetooth Speaker.

Believe it or not, Jeff gets his supply of vinyl from record shops, collectors, and even people’s attics. He will actually upcycle 150,000 records or almost 40,000 pounds of material. Because he’s committed to sustainable manufacturing, no part of the record is wasted. The album covers are converted into sketchbooks and notecards, and paper recyclers collect leftover material. Even the vinyl scraps are sent to record-pressing plants where they’re re-ground and turned back into brand new records.
