Radio Flyer created a Star Wars Landspeeder EV for kids and it is awesome!

Every so often parents get the rare opportunity of passing their fandom to their children in truly spectacular forms. Radio Flyer just introduced a kid-sized drivable Star Wars landspeeder at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Before you scramble to get your credit card, you should know this is not your run of the mill Power Wheels and being a Star Wars fan certainly comes at a price in this case.

The landspeeder is a replica of the X-34 vehicle in Star Wars: A New Hope and features an interactive dashboard with lights and soundbites from the movie. The dashboard even includes dialogue from C-3PO, R2-D2 and Luke Skywalker. It can zoom up to a lightning fast speed of ..well.. only 5mph and is powered by a 12V rechargeable battery. The craft can also go in reverse for those intergalactic parallel parking situations as well.

While the toy vehicle can seat up to two riders ages 4 and up, Mom and Dad will most likely have to hang back on riding this one—unless both fit in the small seats and the combined weight is no more than 130 pounds.

Modeled after the sand-pocked and sun-faded X-34 craft from Star Wars: A New Hope, Luke Skywalker’s Landspeeder by Radio Flyer includes seats for two riders, an interactive dashboard with lights and real movie sounds and a 5 mph driving speed. For a truly galactic driving experience, the gear shift switches between 2 mph forward, 5 mph forward and 2 mph reverse. A rechargeable battery and charger are included. For ages 4+, max weight 130lb.

Fandom doesn’t come cheap unfortunately, this futuristic hover car will cost a pretty penny at $499.99 at Toys ‘R’ Us. The good news is that after shelling out that much for this slick new ride, Toys ‘R’ Us will ship it for free. It’s currently on pre-order with an estimated ship date of September 5th. Just in time to get that legendary costume for your little Star Wars fan to got Trick or Treating in.
