Keeping your tech charged everywhere is always a struggle. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been on the road or at an airport needing extra power, only to find no open outlets near me. Romeo Power has launched the Saber power pack to change this. With two USB-A ports, one USB-C, and a multi-country safe 120V outlet, the Saber power pack aims to keep all of your devices going.
My 15-inch MacBook Pro with TouchBar is a power hog. Though I can normally eek out around 6-8 hours of use if I keep the brightness down and just use it for browsing and writing, it will eventually die. If I had a Saber in my bag, I could easily go 1-2 days of full-length use on my MacBook. The nicest thing about Saber over other external battery banks is that it can output up to 60W with the USB-C port, or a full 110W with the AC plug. This means that, if you use the AC plug, you can charge your 15-inch MacBook Pro with TouchBar at full speed, making it possible to edit video while on the go without killing your battery.
Saber can also charge up in only 2 hours. This is much faster than other large chargers on the market and means that if Saber does die you can be back up and going in no time at all.
This external battery is the perfect traveling companion because you can charge multiple devices at once. You can have two USB-A ports, the USB-C port, and the AC port all in use at once. With a full charge capacity of over 23,000 mAh (or 86Wh), you can get many charges on your devices out of a single charge of the Saber.
Saber is also a connected smart-battery. Yes, you read that right, this external battery is connected to your smartphone so you can monitor everything about it. With the app, you can monitor things like time until full and time until empty, as well as software updates for your battery.
Romeo Power says that the Saber is IP67 dust and water resistant. This means that Saber is build to handle all kinds of conditions. They also claim that the Saber should have up to a 6-month shelf life.
As the Saber is under the 100Wh limit set by TSA, it will be allowed on planes with you to keep your devices powered while in the air. Currently priced at $199 as a pre-sale price, this battery isn’t the most budget-friendly by any means. But, with all of the features packed into an external battery, it is well worth it to me. After the pre-sale price expires, Saber will go up to $299.
