We all have seen the videos on Facebook of an amazing time-lapse, a great sliding shot, or a unique perspective that is hard to attain without expensive sliders and equipment. Dyno Equipment recently launched a new product on Indiegogo that does just that, for a fraction of the price of competitors.
Trek, an app-controlled motorized slider, aims to bring you professional results at hobbyist prices. Working with GoPro, your phone, or even smaller cameras, Trek looks to be the perfect slider and accessory for the shutterbug in your life. With estimated delivery in January 2018, the launch of this unique product is just around the corner.
Even at the MSRP of $299, Trek is quite a bit more affordable than most of their competition, which is their goal. At half the price of their closest competitor, Trek offers more features. One of Trek’s stand out benefits, to me, is that it doesn’t need tools for assembly. Everything is magnetic, meaning that it’s super simple and easy to put together even when on the road or vacation.
Trek also features insane battery life giving you more than 20+ hours of possible footage. It also features USB-C, allowing you to use the Trek to power your camera or phone for even longer shooting sessions. And don’t worry about weather canceling your beautiful time-lapse of the sunset with your GoPro, Trek is also weatherproof from the factory.
Trek is built to hold smaller devices like a GoPro Sony RX0, your cell phone, or even small mirrorless or point-and-shoot cameras. This means you can use Trek with anything you normally take with you on a trip or vacation, short of a full-sized DSLR.
This amazing and affordable motorized slider can support cameras up to 1 lb. in the horizontal position, and cameras up to 8 oz. in the vertical position. If you want to get really crazy, it even supports cameras up to 8 oz. completely upsidedown! This could make for some insanely unique shots that no one else can get.
Currently, you can get Trek in several kits, starting from $225 + shipping for the base kit, going up to $425 + shipping for the biggest kit (before you get to spend a day with the founders.) The kits range in included pieces, where you start with just a few straight pieces, eventually being able to make a full circle and all with Trek.
If you know a budding photographer or cinematographer who really could use a good, affordable, and reliable motorized slider, Trek just might be your best bet. Even though it won’t make it in time for the holidays, most wouldn’t mind opening up a package with a picture of this unique slider either.
