Rocket League comes to life w/ new Hot Wheels iPhone-controlled game

Since releasing on Windows PC and PlayStation 4 back in 2015, Rocket League has enjoyed a cult status of sorts amongst gamers. The soccer meets rocket-powered cars title is a hit for its affordable price tag, fun graphics and cross-platform play. After making its way to Nintendo Switch late last year, there are few places where Rocket League’s influence can’t be found.

In a seemingly no-brainer move, the developers behind this popular title have this morning announced a partnership with Hot Wheels. No, we’re not talking about virtual four-wheelers here. Rocket League is getting its own smartphone-controlled version that brings the game to life in a whole new way.

The new Hot Wheels-branded remote control game is set to hit your living room late this year, bringing this iconic game to real-life. It all starts with a recreated mini stadium that has real LCD scoreboards and the familiar bright color scheme we’ve come to love.

Each bundle will ship with two smartphone-controlled cars styled after Octane and Dominus, two popular in-game vehicles. Just like its virtual counterpart, users will be able to fly around the stadium knocking the ball about in hopes of scoring a goal.

The included soccer ball has some built-in tech as well to help keep tracking on movements. An IR receiver can tell when a goal has been scored, and relays which team to the scoreboard. This is hardly new tech, but it sure is fun to imagine Rocket League taking place on your dining room table.

Hot Wheels is set to release the new Rocket League RC Rivals set this coming holiday season for $179.99. However, we’ll get our first look at Toy Fair 2018 this week in New York City.

Along with today’s news, Rocket League is also teasing a new Hot Wheels DLC set to arrive “later this year”. Details are tough to come by at this time, but you can expect a variety of new vehicles available for play.

This is hardly Hot Wheels first partnership with a video game production studio. Forza Horizon 3 has a brilliant expansion pack that brings these popular toys to life. If this means more Hot Wheels partnerships down the line, then we’re all for it.

HOT WHEELS ROCKET LEAGUE RC CARS COMING HOLIDAY 2018

We’ve teamed up with Hot Wheels to bring Rocket League to your living room in a whole new way!

The Hot Wheels Rocket League RC Rivals Set brings some of your favorite Battle-Cars to life! The large set comes with ‘Octane’ and ‘Dominus’ remote-controlled cars, a Rocket League ball, and a custom field mat that looks like it’s straight out of the video game. Both Battle-Cars are controlled via Bluetooth from your smartphone or tablet with no extra controllers to worry about. The vehicles and ball are charged via a large boost pad station and the set’s scoreboard will track any shots that go through the goal with sounds! Check out the RC Set in the image below.

In addition to the RC Battle-Car action, the set also comes with codes that can be redeemed for unique in-game items. (Note: In-game code requires a copy of Rocket League to redeem, sold separately.) Details on the code item(s) will come closer to the toy’s launch.

The RC Rivals Set will be available this Holiday for USD $179.99, and Hot Wheels will be showing off the set at Toy Fair 2018 in New York City February 17-20.

We’ll have additional news to share about new Hot Wheels DLC coming later this year. Let us know what you think of the new toys on Twitter, Facebook, and our subreddit!
