The folks over at SteelSeries have been the purveyors of high quality gaming peripherals and more for several years now. Everything from gaming headsets to mice, mechanical keyboards and mouse pads, the company has just about everything you could ever need to spec out your gaming room. And today, SteelSeries is unveiling the next generation Artcis headsets for PS4, and PC…
This is in fact, the new Arctis Pro line that includes three separate sets of cans as well as the new GameDAC. While the actual definition is a little unclear here, SteelSeries claims the new headsets are “the first high-fidelity and high-res certified audio systems for gaming.”
The flagship model of the new offerings is the Arctis Pro + GameDAC. It features extremely high-resolution audio (96kHz/24-bit) without the ugly down-sampling effects. That GameDAC is actually an ESS Sabre DAC and amp that provides the hottest possible signal from your gaming rig with lowest amount of distortion manageable.
While most would not be able to notice the difference between audio coming straight from a decent pair of headphones at a more typical resolution like 44.1/16-bit, hardcore gamers that have put loads of hours into gaming with a headset are much more likely to.
You’re looking at “premium speaker drivers” with neodymium magnets that can reproduce audio well above the spectrum of human hearing (up to 40,000 Hz). That might seem like overkill, but its easy to find those that believe audio in the audible range becomes much more harmonic and complex (in a pleasing way) when playing back over speakers with a broader frequency response range.
This set has 121 decibels (dB) of dynamic range and -95dB total harmonic distortion/noise.
The GameDAC also features an “OLED screen for easy access to settings and controls without the use of additional software.” Gamers will be able to customize EQ settings, manage headphone illumination, access volume controls and ChatMix levels.
The Arctis Pro + GameDAC is available now for $249.99.
We are also getting the Arctis Pro and Arctis Pro Wireless headphones with 2.4G and Bluetooth audio. You’re getting the same 40,000 Hz frequency response shelf, 40-foot range, and swappable batteries for a total of up to 20 hours of solid gaming.
Gamers can use both the 2.4G and Bluetooth connections simultaneously for maximum flexibility, including gaming while using Discord chat or listening to music. The Arctis Pro Wireless headset connects to the wireless transmitter base station via SteelSeries’ 2.4G connection. This provides lossless and ultra-low latency wireless audio with up to 40 feet of range. Auto-channel hopping technology ensures the headset will always find clean RF space for interference-free performance.
The Arctis Pro and Arctis Pro Wireless headphones are also available now from $179.99 shipped.
