Yamaha has a rich history rooted in electric vehicles that began nearly 25 years ago with the introduction of its first electric power-assist bicycles. And since 1993, the company has gone on to bring its eBike drive systems to over 2 million riders across the globe. Today, Yamaha has announced that to celebrate two and a half decades of electric rides, it would be releasing four new differently-tailored eBikes come May.

In the past few years, eBikes have road their way towards being one of the more convenient ways for commuters to navigate cities and make their rounds when out and about. And while some are geared more towards tackling any terrain outdoors, Yamaha’s new lineup of electric bicycles are centered around a few different focuses to suit any type of rider.

Of the four new releases, two models are geared towards helping commuters get where they’re going and a third version built from the ground up for mountain biking and hitting the trails. A fourth sports a design and features from both categories, making it more of hybrid eBike. The three road-friendly eBikes in Yahama’s lineup boast a brand new PWSeries SE motor which is paired with a 36-volt battery pack. On the other hand, the mountain bike packs a new PW-X drive system, which adds a fifth level of pedal assist and is also complemented by same size battery.

Kicking off the Pedal Assist lineup is the entry-level CrossCore, a fitness oriented eBike that sports a more streamlined and lightweight frame compared to the other bicycles in Yamaha’s lineup. Alongside an air sleeve suspension fork and a rear cargo rack, the CrossCore also packs both front and back-mounted LED lights. Despite being the most affordable of the bunch, it’s priced at $2,399.

Taking a step up, the CrossConnect is a more full-featured eBike ready to handle your daily commutes. Its frame is said to be designed to maximize comfort and packs many of the same features as the CrossCore but with higher speeds and commute distances. As such, it carries a $2,999 price tag.

Entering as Yamaha’s latest off-road eBike, the YDX-TORC is based around an 11-speed gearing system, the RockShox front-suspension fork, and 27.5-inch puncture-resistant tires. Unfortunately for those eyeing up the all-terrain model, the mountain eBike’s features come at a steep $3,499 price tag.

Taking the best of both the CrossConnect and YDX-TORC eBikes, Yamaha’s UrbanRush bares a close resemblance to traditional road bikes. While it packs the same drive system as the CrossConnect, it manages to sport higher top-speeds, improved handling and an all-around higher performance. Its price is a bit of a hybrid as well, clocking in between the other models at $3,299.

All of the new eBikes are scheduled to be released sometime later this year come May. Estimated top speeds and ranges are still up in the air, as Yamaha hasn’t announced what kind of metrics its latest eBikes will tout. While their entry prices may be high for those just getting situated with the eBike market, Yamaha’s 25 years of experience should hopefully help make its latest models worth the money.
