JLab goes retro w/ new Walkman-style wireless headphones for just $20, available now

$20

JLab Audio is launching a brand new pair of throw-back style headphones. The new Rewind Wireless Retro harken back to that 80’s look when the Walkman reigned supreme. Although JLab has implemented just about all of the modern amenities we have come to love in headphones these days including wireless connectivity, virtual assistant support and much more, the company still managed to keep them at an impossibly affordable price tag.

From the outside, the Rewind Wireless Retro Headphones look like your typical Walkman-style headset circa 1986, but once you dive in, all of the modern touches show themselves. Bluetooth 4.2 allows the new headset to connect with your smart device allowing you to control your music, incoming/outgoing calls and giving access Siri, Google Assistant and more.

The MEMS microphone and other functionality are accessed via the earcup mounted touch system. There is also a Custom EQ3 Sound system built-in here providing users the choice between 3 preset EQ enhanced listening modes referred to as JLab Signature, Balanced, and Bass Boost.

While a simple micro USB connection will get you call charged up, JLAB’s new throwback cans boast a 12-hour battery life.

The extremely light footprint of the headphones (0.14-lbs.) is managed by the metal, adjustable headband. You’ll get two pairs of ear cushions with each set, a standard set (matching the color of the headphones) and the throwback orange.

While it is hard to say if this approach will be as effective as JLab hopes, buzz for the 80’s continues to linger in 2018 with Stranger Things and the like. The somewhat odd-looking, by today’s standards, headphones are surely to make the perfect fashion statement for some, regardless of how they sound.

The Rewind Headphones are a nod to the original 80s and 90s headphones – with a modern twist, offering wireless technology and amazing sound.  This might be the coolest product we’ve ever built – and at 20 bucks, we’ve stuck to our philosophy of building a product that everyone can afford.

The new JLab Rewind Wireless Retro Headphones are available now in black for just $20. The blue and white colorways will begin shipping in late April according to the company. While they aren’t my personal cup of tea, I can easily seeing headphones like this catching on for some folks.  The price is certainly right for a quick tech-fashion statement, but it’s unclear whether or not the audio quality will keep them on your head.
