Try out Detroit Become Human’s insane visuals & player-choice gameplay for FREE on PS4

Quantic Dream, led by game designer David Cage has been responsible for some of the most interesting and unapologetically cinematic experiences in gaming. The studio has heavily leaned on interactive storytelling and player ownership to create its most recent AAA titles. And now we are exactly one month from the release of the studio’s latest project known as Detroit: Become Human.

After officially going gold this week, Sony has announced the new Quantic Dream title will definitely be released next month and is now offering players a chance to give it a try early.

For those unfamiliar with the studio’s past work, titles like Heavy Rain and 2013’s Beyond: Two Souls are a great place to start. Both titles employ the studio’s unique interactive narrative paths and gameplay mechanics rarely found in larger prime time releases like this. While not a perfect experience by any means, I had a great time with Heavy Rain years ago and considering how long ago that game came out, I’m really excited to see what the studio can bring to the table in 2018.

The futuristic Detroit: Become Human is a story told through the eyes of three, player controlled androids: Connor, Kara and Markus. Connor is tasked with hunting down rogue Androids like Kara who recently escaped to freedom, while individuals like Markus dedicate their lives to protecting android rights and the like.

The fate of each of these characters will entirely be in the hands of the players by way of dialogue trees and other choices throughout the experience that will shape the over-arching narrative, much like Quantic’s past titles. Needless to say, that sounds like it could be a really interesting setup for an interactive story like this.

Sony and Quantic Dream have now released a free demo of the game ahead of launch. It’s a short slice of the beginning of the game that will take you roughly an hour to complete. But either way, it’s a great chance to get a feel for the gameplay before dropping down any cash. However if you do like what you see, Amazon Prime and Best Buy GCU members can still pre-order the game for $47.99 shipped (Reg. $60).

Speaking of Quantic Dream, Beyond: Two Souls can be played on PlayStation 4 for free next month if you have a PS Plus membership. Also available as part of May’s PS Plus freebies will be Rayman Legends along with a few others. Just be sure your PlayStation Plus membership is in-line or you won’t be able to grab them.
