Laptops used to be for light-duty work only. At one time, they were limited to dual-core processors (even with i7’s) and then we stepped into the realm of quad-core offerings. After that came quad-core hyperthreading, giving you theoretically 8 lanes of processing power.
Now, it’s time for a new generation of processing to take place. ASUS recently announced a new ZenBook Pro 15 laptop, with Intel’s massive Core i9-8950HK processor that features 6 cores and 12 threads of monstrous power. But that’s not all this laptop packs, keep reading to find out more.
I’ve been looking for a laptop like this for quite some time. Sure there have been other offerings in times past that included hexacore processors, but it was always in an ugly housing and weighed a ton. ASUS aims to change that, and I’m stoked about it.
This laptop can be spec’d up to the Core i9-8950HK, GTX 1050 GPU with 4GB VRAM, 15-inch 4K NanoEdge touchscreen, 16GB RAM, and a 1TB PCIe SSD. This means that you won’t lack for power at all when using this laptop, and that’s what people need these days.
More and more people are working from coffee shops, bistros, and other similar Internet cafes. Getting out of the house is becoming commonplace as more people start to work from home (or on the go) instead of a dedicated office.
If you work in a field that requires a lot of processing power, say, video or photo editing, graphic design, programming, or similar, finding a good laptop is never easy. The perfect balance between power, weight, and design is hard to come by.
The other issue that many face is the port selection. Say you choose Apple’s latest MacBook Pro with Touch Bar. Though expensive, Apple’s offering is quite powerful and can hold its own against many desktops. The main drawback here is the port selection.
ASUS combats this by giving two USB-C Thunderbolt 3 ports, two USB-A ports, an HDMI jack, headphone port, and even a microSD card reader. Yes, you can read microSD cards without an adapter here!
The keyboard is backlit, the trackpad is glass-covered, and there’s even a Windows Hello fingerprint sensor. Speakers come courtesy of Harman Kardon so you can enjoy listening to audio, and there’s even up to 9 hours of battery life here.
Weight wise, this laptop comes in at just over 4-lbs. and is under 1-inch thick when closed. Dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0 close out the spec department giving you all the modern features you’d expect from a computer of this caliber.
The body of this laptop is even solid-aluminum and is precision-engineered to stun from every angle.
Though pricing is not yet available for these new Zenbook Pro models, we do expect them to be a bit on the higher-end, given the specs offered.
