We’re officially into June and that means Prime Day 2018 is just around the corner. Amazon’s annual event in July seemingly gets bigger (and better) each year with more deals flying off the virtual shelves than ever before. Now in its fourth year, Prime Day 2018 is sure to be the biggest yet. Head below for more details on what to expect this time around.
The origins of Prime Day |
Amazon first started Prime Day back in 2015. Although it was billed as a way to mark the online giant’s 20th birthday celebration, it felt far more like a Black Friday in July type of event. In the subsequent years Amazon has expanded this promotion from one day to to as much as two weeks in 2017.
As you might guess, a Prime membership is required to take advantage of any deals Amazon offers on Prime Day. In the past this has not served as much of a barrier to entry, as most savvy online shoppers enjoy Amazon’s two-day shipping perks these days. But with a recent decision to increase the price, Amazon has begun to see some push-back from its customers.
Don’t have Prime? You can currently sign-up for a year subscription for $119 or $13 per month. Students can save 50%, bringing the price down to $59 or $6.50 per month. Learn more here.
When is Prime Day 2018? |
Historically, Prime Day has been held on the second Tuesday of July. For 2018, that means July 10th. Amazon has yet to officially confirm this date, so at this point, that’s our best guess. Last year’s event tells us that Amazon is likely to start kicking off early Prime Days up to two weeks in advance. In 2017, that included early-access to some deals that were exclusive to Alexa-enabled devices.
Our best guess is the deals will start rolling in as early as June 24th, with the 24-hour sale starting late on July 9th. As always, the best way to keep on top of the deals as they pop-up is to follow Electronicsforward on Twitter.
Will Prime Day deals be at Whole Foods? |
Yes. Going off last year’s Black Friday deals, we can expect Amazon to bring Prime Day offers to Whole Foods. Just in recent months we’ve seen even more aggressive moves by Amazon to bring in Prime members to its grocery store locations. Look for this to continue on Prime Day for the first time this year. Our best guess is that Amazon will offer various discounts on its Alexa-enabled devices (something it did last November) along with incentives on select groceries.
