Amazon officially announces ‘Hub’, a new way to safely store deliveries

This morning, Amazon announced Hub, its latest invention to make deliveries easier and bring more Prime benefits into your life. This new delivery solution will roll out to over 500,000 residents in New York, San Francisco and other cities with the intention of reimagining how your Amazon packages arrive. Today’s official announcement comes one-year after Amazon first detailed the service in beta.

Designed with keeping your valuable deliveries safe, Hub by Amazon works with any service and retailer as a front-door storage solution for apartment high-rises. Each resident will then have a designated unit that keeps their packages secure until they arrive at home. More details below.

Amazon first rolled out its ‘Lockers’ around the country a few years ago as a means for safely storing packages at designated locations. After purchasing Whole Foods last year, these nifty boxes started popping up at local grocery stores as well. Amazon Hub is the next step in this project, bringing the idea of storage to your apartment building or high-rise.

At launch, Hubs will be available primarily in New York and San Francisco with the idea of an aggressive roll out occurring nationwide. Seattle is a natural fit for this project given Amazon’s hefty presence in the city.

When a package arrives from Amazon (or another retailer), authorized personnel can drop off the delivery in a marked box within your lobby or common area. A notification is then sent to your device that you have something waiting upon arrival.

Patrick Supanc, director of Amazon Worldwide Lockers and Pickup, explains further:

“Now half a million residents in some of the premier properties in the country have access to the Hub, Amazon’s latest delivery solution. The Hub simplifies delivery for residents, offering quick and secure access to packages, day or night. For delivery providers, it offers a single, convenient location for package drop-off and gives property managers time and resources back to focus on other priorities.”

Look for Amazon Hub to continue to expand into additional cities and communities as it builds partnerships with property managers. What are your thoughts on Hub by Amazon? Let us know in the comments below.

Introducing Hub by Amazon—Amazon’s Latest Offering to Make Apartment Deliveries Easier

SEATTLE–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Jun. 19, 2018– (NASDAQ:AMZN)—Amazon today announced Hub by Amazon, a delivery solution for apartments that brings convenience and consistency to the delivery experience, is available for installation across the United States. Over 500,000 residents—from New York City to San Francisco, among others—already have access to the Hub by Amazon with thousands more gaining access each month as new Hubs are installed in apartment communities across the country.

Designed for the safe storage of packages, the Hub works for deliveries from any sender, not just Amazon. Residents have their orders and shipments addressed to their apartment as they normally would, and when their package is delivered to the Hub—whether in a high-rise building or garden-style apartment—it is safely stored, waiting for pickup. Hub by Amazon also leverages Amazon’s world-class customer service to provide residents with 24/7 support.

“We’re always striving to make things easier for our customers. Building on Amazon’s expertise in locker solutions, the Hub addresses frustrations from property owners, carriers and residents concerning package delivery,” said Patrick Supanc, director, Amazon Worldwide Lockers and Pickup.

With this amenity, apartment residents no longer need to wait for property staff to deliver a package or adjust their schedules for limited pickup windows at front desks. Property owners and managers also benefit from the Hub by Amazon as it takes on package tasks regularly handled by property staff, decluttering lobbies and allowing onsite staff time for other priorities.

“I love the peace of mind that comes from knowing my package has been delivered, kept safe, and is easily accessible at my convenience,” said Alex K., a Fairfield Residential property resident in Fort Lauderdale and user of the Hub.

Many of the nation’s largest residential property owners and managers, collectively overseeing thousands of apartment properties, have signed up to use the Hub by Amazon, including AvalonBay, Fairfield Residential, Pinnacle, J.P. Morgan Asset Management, WinnResidential, and Equity Residential, among others.

“With Hub by Amazon, residents can pick up packages at their convenience, 24/7, and our associates are spending more time doing what they’re most excited about—delivering great service to our residents,” said Karen Hollinger, vice president of Corporate Initiatives at AvalonBay Communities. “We couldn’t be more excited for the ease and consistency it brings to the delivery experience for both residents and AvalonBay associates.”
