Air quality is a big deal in many cities. The air we breath can be full of contaminants, dust-born particles, or might just be a poor temperature for an activity we’re performing (productivity, sleep, etc.) Awair launched in late 2016 with its Glow product that featured the ability to provide live air quality monitoring in a standalone package.
The latest product from Awair doesn’t have any fancy name and is just called the “Awair 2nd Edition”. This new air quality monitor packs a ton of features into a uniquely designed small cabinet to deliver everything on a dot-style display, bringing both function and acting as a great desk accessory.
The Awair 2nd Edition is vastly different in design from its predecessor. While the Awair Glow was a wall plug, the 2nd Edition is a standalone desk accessory crafted from North American walnut that has an independent display, instead of relying on colored LEDs and your smartphone.
This display can give you instant feedback in the form of colored LED dots so you know air quality at a glance, and you can choose to cycle through different metrics or just have one stick on the display. I have my Awair 2nd Edition set for temperature, but a quick double tap on the top switches it to a clock.
Not sure you want an LED display in your room? Well, Awair not only has air quality sensors, but also light so it can sense when you turn off the lights (or dim them) and change the brightness of its display accordingly. If you’d rather turn off the display entirely and just have it monitor air, you can do that as well. You can even manually set the brightness so it’s always the same, regardless of the light in your room.
The Awair 2nd Edition can monitor the five key air pollutants which can impact your health: fine dust, chemicals (VOC), CO2, humidity, and temperature. Personally, I’m allergic to dust, and while I have an air scrubber in my room/office, this will be great to know how well its functioning and if it’s time to replace the filter or even upgrade units.
The air quality is displayed on the dot display or on your phone, where it can provide you with a historical graph or tips and tricks to improve air quality.
In the app, you can choose what you’d prefer it to search for, and it will customize its patters for that. I have mine set to productivity, but you can change it to sleep, baby (for keeping in a child’s room), or a number of other options.
Awair’s app will also provide a sleep report which uses an algorithm to help you make sure that your room is perfect for a good night’s rest. With its personal recommendations based off of your own room’s air and more, this is a great tool for those who don’t wake up fully rested.
You don’t need to use the app on your phone to get updates on air quality, as Awair 2nd Edition can pair up with Amazon’s Alexa, Google’s Assistant, or IFTTT to provide real-time feedback from your favorite virtual assistants.
And for my favorite part of Awair 2nd Edition, it’s powered over USB-C. That’s right, no more microUSB or proprietary connectors here, Awair is all-in on the USB-C train which is fantastic since you can use the same charger for your phone, computer, tablet, and now air quality monitor when going on vacation, or even just when at home.
Awair 2nd Edition is available starting today for $199, though you can save $20 when you use code LAUNCH2E at checkout.
