Although it was originally announced back in May of this year, details for HP’s new OMEN Mindframe gaming headset didn’t include a release date, pricing and more. It only took HP a couple of months to hammer out this information and it decided that Gamerscom was the right place to share the details needed for gamers to decide if this will be their next headset. It may sound funny when you hear that Mindframe’s standout feature is active cooling to prevent ear sweat, but considering that this is something that a lot of gamers experience, it is likely to be appreciated alongside many of its other high-end features.
In addition to its futuristic active ear cup cooling technology, the OMEN Mindframe headset packs many features like 7.1-channel surround sound and RGB lighting that gamers tend to be on the lookout for.
With DTS Headphone: X Surround Sound, a feature also found on other headsets like the SteelSeries Arctis Pro or Logitech G533, the Mindframe aims to provide an experience similar to ‘a multi-speaker home theater set-up’.
For convenience, HP’s new headset packs headset-mounted volume controls and a flip-to-mute microphone feature. Personally, I feel that flip-to-mute is a feature that every headset should pack to make it immediately obvious if others can hear you or not.
If you are expecting to see a similar active ear cup cooling technology like Mindframe’s in other headsets, you may have to wait a little while since this feature is based on a patent held by HP.
Thanks to its Frostcap Technology, HP’s unique approach involves using a thermoelectric device within each ear cup along with Peltier fabric to move hot air away from the Mindframe and keep gamers’ ears cool while the headset is worn.
HP even allows users to control the degree of cooling by using its OMEN Command Center software. An app that allows users to customize their gaming experiences by adjusting overclocking, lighting and more in its OMEN-branded products.
When thinking about all of the features included in HP’s new headset, most would consider this to be a high-end product. From 7.1-channel surround sound to RGB-lighting capabilities, the Mindframe is sure to check a lot of boxes for gamers.
HP says that the OMEN Mindframe will be available in October 2018 with pricing starting at $199.99. With the world of gaming headsets being so competitively priced, only time will tell if the demand will be there for the company’s upcoming headset.
