Macy’s Black Friday 2018: Weekend-long doorbusters, exclusive app savings, more

macy's black friday store

Macy’s is a popular name come Thanksgiving and Black Friday. It hosts a famous Thanksgiving Day parade, then follows up that performance with a wave of limited-time doorbusters at its stores. What else can you expect during this year’s Macy’s Black Friday Sale? Head below for more details (hint: you may want to keep your smartphone handy)…

WHEN IS BLACK FRIDAY AT MACY’S?

Macy’s will be kicking off its Black Friday savings on Thanksgiving Day, November 22.

WILL MACY’S BE OPEN ON THANKSGIVING?

Yes, like last year, expect Macy’s stores to be open from 5PM local time on Thanksgiving. Online offers will also be going live that day.

WHEN WILL THE MACY’S BLACK FRIDAY AD BE RELEASED?

We can anticipate an ad leak in early November. Last year, we had a peek of Macy’s Black Friday 2017 ad on November 8. This rather bare page is the only official resource we can find from Macy’s regarding Black Friday as of right now.

MACY’S FREE SHIPPING?

Macy’s generally offers free shipping on orders of $99 or more. However, we’ve seen that minimum drop to as low as $25 in recent months. Last November, orders of $49 or more had free shipping. Given that we’ve seen much lower thresholds lately, it would be a nice surprise to see Macy’s drop the free shipping minimum to $25 for Black Friday this year.

Another way to sidestep delivery fees is to add any beauty item to your cart which start as low as $3. Given that shipping fees otherwise add another $9, it’s a very small price to pay for a padding item you may (or may not) want.

Meanwhile, many items may be available for free in-store pickup.

HOW TO SAVE AT MACY’S ON BLACK FRIDAY?

Macy’s is heavily promoting its FREE app, which you can download for iOS and Android. It’s another outlet on which exclusive Black Friday offers will be made available. Your first Macy’s purchase via the app gets an extra 25% off.

You can also expect Macy’s to have several Savings Passes ongoing throughout the weekend. Last year, we saw as much as $20 off orders of $50 or more, which is quite impressive by Macy’s standards. However, a long list of coupon exclusions always applies at Macy’s; read the fine print carefully before redeeming any extra savings.

WILL THERE BE MACY’S DOORBUSTERS?

You can count on Macy’s to be flush with doorbusters on Black Friday weekend. Expect them to be available all day (or while supplies last) online and for limited times only in-store. While these deals may be accessible at any point on Macys.com, the probability of them selling out immediately is very high.

Kitchen appliances and cookery were the stars of last year’s Macy’s doorbuster deals. A selection of 10 brick-and-mortar-exclusive doorbusters were available for free…with a mail-in rebate.

WILL MACY’S PRICE MATCH COMPETITORS ON BLACK FRIDAY?

While we can expect Macy’s to have some competitive pricing on Black Friday, keep in mind that many of the deepest discounts will be on Macy’s-exclusive brands and products. It remains to be seen how competitive Macy’s will be with itself come Black Friday weekend, as this spring and summer had witnessed some best-ever prices on such items from the retailer.

WHAT WILL BE ON SALE AT MACY’S ON BLACK FRIDAY?

If you need to refresh your kitchen, make Macy’s one of the first places you look. Last year we saw stellar deals on coffee makers, blenders, cookware sets, and other kitchen essentials.

Also be on the lookout for deep discounts on apparel — especially men’s dress attire and suiting, bedding, and fine jewelry. Last November, Macy’s offered a pair of diamond earrings valued at $200 for only $30 with any purchase of $200 or more. Keep your eyes peeled for a similar offer or two this year.

A smattering of tech items were on sale last year, such as the Apple Watch Series 1 from $179. Could discounts on the Series 2 and/or Series 3 be forthcoming in this year’s Macy’s Black Friday Sale? Stay tuned.
