At this point, most of our readers at Electronicsforward have an Amazon Prime membership. But as 2019 gets underway, we’re going to look at how to take your Amazon experience to the next level. Obviously, benefits like two-day shipping and access to a vast library of content make a Prime membership more compelling than ever before. But it’s other services like Amazon Family that make online shopping much easier.
The problem is most people don’t know that Amazon Family exists. Or what even does. This free perk is certainly an intriguing option for young families with little time to shop, let alone track down the best deals. Head below for a look at everything Amazon Family has to offer you in 2019.
What is Amazon Family?
Previously known as Amazon Mom, Amazon Family emerged in 2018 as one of the online giant’s more meaningful services. It’s easy to get lost in the wave of programs that Amazon currently offers but Amazon Family is one that can actually help you save some dough — a helpful proposition for families.
Amazon Family is technically a free service, but it does require a Prime membership. That will run you $119 annually or $12.99 per month to get started. Joining Amazon Family delivers access to various discounts and a rolling list of special offers for members.
You can jump into Amazon Family at any time, but if you’re currently expecting a new child, we recommend doing it beforehand. Amazon will ship you a welcome box and offer 15% off anything on your registry that wasn’t purchased prior.
What discounts come with Amazon Family?
Aside from the aforementioned registry discounts, there are plenty of other ways to save with Amazon Family. Some of those are constants like the promised “up to 20% off diapers, baby food and more.” But where Amazon Family becomes more intriguing is with exclusive deals on various toys and other products.
Like any so-called exclusive discount, it’s a good idea to do some homework independently to ensure you’re getting the lowest possible price. (Of course, we’re working hard to bring you the best deals here at Electronicsforward as well.) Often, Amazon will send out discounts via email to Amazon Family members once or twice a month. In my experience, these deals have been hit or miss.
For young families, there’s more to it than simply asking, is this the best price available? With a newborn in our home, my wife and I are finding the balance between price and time. I expect many parents are doing the same in their daily lives. Does the ease of Prime delivery make up for a 10% difference in price? 20%? That’s for you to decide, but often time and gas savings make the price close, if not better, with Amazon Family.
Should I sign-up for Amazon Family?
If you’re a Prime member, then yes! It’s free and there’s little work to be done to take advantage of this program. Those without a Prime membership are going to want to figure out if the annual $119 fee is worth it. Chances are, if you’re not a Prime member already nor a frequent Amazon shopper, it’s likely more complicated. Two-day shipping, access to an impressive library of content, and other perks make it more compelling than ever to join Amazon Prime. But if you’re not buying regularly from the online marketplace, you may want to stay the course.
