IK Multimedia has just unveiled the new iRig Micro Amp. This announcement comes on the heels of the new AXE I/O audio interface we got last week and continues IK’s push for solid guitar player-focused tech at this year’s NAMM. Head below for all the details.
The aforementioned AXE I/O offers up high-end recording resolutions with some interesting routing tech to integrate your existing stomp box setup. The new iRig Micro Amp is a portable, battery-powered amplifier for practice situations and casual use but with a more professional approach to connectivity and the like.
iRig Micro Amp:
The miniature amp also includes a built-in audio interface allowing for direct processing and recording (24-bit, 96 kHz) with all of your favorite recording software. And that includes iOS devices, Mac and PC setups.
On-Board Controls:
You’ll find three analog guitar channels (clean, drive and lead) along with top-mounted equalization (bass, mid, treble) and gain controls. The iRig Micro Amp offers 15W of power ( or 7.5W when running on batteries) through a 4-inch “custom-voiced speaker.” But you can also take it up a notch with the included 4Ω cabinet output if you want to integrate your iRig Micro Amp setup with larger speakers.
Included Software:
While small enough to fit inside your backpack, according to IK, the casual practice amp includes loads of software add-ons via the AmpliTube app and more. Essentially you’re looking at the ability to send your guitar signal through the amp’s interface, into your iOS, Mac or PC setup for processing and then back out the 4-inch speaker on the amp. This little signal loop allows you to add a plethora of amp emulation and effects to your guitar tone without the need for any additional accessories. You get “10 amps and 26 stompbox effects in AmpliTube CS for iPhone or iPad, and 9 amps/10 stomps in AmpliTube 4 for Mac/PC, for free.”
Pricing & Availability:
Clearly IK is aiming at a more casual practice market with iRig Micro Amp as most professionals will likely already have a nice amp and a long list of software to go with it. However, with its portable form-factor and easy integration with iOS devices, we can imagine just about anyone getting some serious use out of this thing. Whether it’s for sketching out quick ideas on the road or bringing an entire software suite of amp emulators and the like to the rehearsal space, even pros might be able to put this thing to work.
iRig Micro Amp will be available in March for $149.99 shipped. Head over to IK Multimedia for more details, and you might want to check out some of the other NAMM-related releases that have hit over the last week or so.
