Adidas is known for thinking outside of the box when it comes to footwear. It’s latest creation goes even further with a biodegradable design that focuses on being environmentally friendly. Adidas started this project by wanting to explore the idea of eliminating its dependance on manufactured plastics. That led them to a material called Biosteel that is made from a synthetic spider silk. The main draw here is its biodegradable characteristics. Adidas leaned heavily on this unique fabric to create the new Futurecraft Biofabric shoe.
This isn’t Adidas first foray into environmentally-friendly designs. You might have seen the Adidas x Parley that was recently released. Portions of that shoe are made from recycled ocean plastic but it isn’t entirely free of potentially earth-damaging materials. Adidas expects that Biofabric owners can get around two years of use out the shoes before deterioration might begin to occur. At this point, these new kicks are still in the developmental stage but the plan is to have them available for purchase in 2017. This is just the latest move from Adidas as it points toward eliminating the use of plastic in its supply chain in the coming years.
