Amazon adds intercom functionality to Echo devices, save $100 on two right now

Amazon has updated its Echo devices this week with a new feature that brings intercom functionality between multiple devices in the same home. In a move that feels oddly futuristic and out-dated at the same time, users will be able to hold discussions in separate parts of the house via the popular smart speaker.

Today’s news comes just ahead of murmurings that Prime Day is set to be announced shortly, slated for the second week of July. An event that we expect Alexa to play a large role in as Amazon frequently offers exclusive discounts through its devices. Head below for more details on today’s update as well as a special deal that nets you $100 off two speakers.

Nintendo officially announces the new SNES Classic Edition mini console

(Update 8/1 12:40pm):

  • Nintendo has officially confirmed that pre-orders for the SNES Classic Edition will go live at “various retailers later this month”. The company also added that a “significant amount of additional systems will be shipped to stores on launch day” and “throughout the calendar year”.
  • We are starting to see pre-order listings appear at AmazonWalmart and Best Buy for the SNES Classic. Although they are not live, be sure to bookmark these pages and get ready for pre-orders to begin. Chances are this thing is gonna constantly sell out and come back in stock even before it releases.
  • Don’t worry Nintendo is extending the length of the cords on the SNES Edition’s 2 included controllers. While still not ideal, the new 5-foot cables are a welcomed addition. That’s about 2-feet longer than the disastrous cords on the NES Edition mini.
  • According to a statement from Nintendo (down below), the company does intend to produce more SNES Editions than it did for the NES Edition. It will ship the units from September 29th until the end of the calendar year, with it has no announcements for anything beyond that.
  • Head below for a look at the European version of the new Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System.

Back in April rumors began to surface online about the existence of the fabled SNES Classic Edition. Nintendo officially announced that it would cease production on the NES Classic Mini, suggesting that it would become even more impossible to ever get your hands one than it already was. However, a report from Eurogamer hinted that not all was lost, as Nintendo was reportedly already deep in development on what would become the Super Nintendo Entertainment System Classic Mini Edition. At the time, it seemed to good to be true even with some of the setbacks the orignal re-release suffered including tiny wired controllers and a fixed number of built-in games. But none of that matters now, Nintendo has officially announced the new SNES Classic Edition.

The wildly popular WhiteFox Mechanical Keyboard returns to Kickstarter for round two

We know that mechanical keyboard enthusiasts can be fanatical about this product category. Perhaps this was best demonstrated by the WhiteFox, which hit MassDrop a few years back as a hobby from Matteo Spinelli. Turns out, it was so popular that he sold over 4,000 units.

That hobby quickly turned into a business opportunity that is now available over at Kickstarter. The $100,000 campaign goal was crushed in a few days time as backers are flocking to the $159 aluminum keyboard. What makes it so special, you ask? The fully-programmable creation of Spinelli and Input Club gives users a wide-range of flexibility in a high-end aluminum design.

Iotty Smart Switch beautifies the home in both modern tech and aesthetics

We’ve become familiar with smart home devices such as smart bulbs and outlets, but how often do we hear about a smart switch? Maybe some of us have come across TP-Link’s approach, or maybe WeMo’s version, but not one took the extra step to modernize the aesthetics. They simply turned regular-looking light switches, made them smart, and stopped there.

I’m ready for futuristic-looking light switches, and Iotty may have gotten it right. Its Indiegogo campaign is about 121% funded and is ready to bring its “Smart Italian Luxury” light switch into production. The company says this switch will redesign your home and automate your lighting directly from your smartphone wherever you are.
