SanDisk ArmorATD Review: Is the protective hard drive’s lower price worth skipping faster SSDs?

The latest model SanDisk Professional 2TB G-DRIVE ArmorATD protective hard drive is in the spotlight today. The G-DRIVE ArmorATD lineup offers up a rugged solution for content creators and more at a relatively affordable cost of entry, but are the far slower transfers speeds compared to that of its SSD brethren worth the savings? Are hard drives even still a worth while investment? Let’s see if the ArmorATD brings enough to the table in other aspects for it to be worth your time. Review: SanDisk’s new Connect Wireless Stick is one of the easiest ways to expand your iPhone’s storage

Apple doesn’t make it easy to expand the storage of its mobile devices. This becomes a big issue when you start shooting HD videos and downloading Retina apps. Most people (especially 16GB device owners) wind up filling their devices to the point that they don’t have enough space to install updates. Over the past couple of years SanDisk’s Connect wireless flash drives have been one of the best ways to workaround this problem: they allow you to have access to huge media files whenever you want and to take as many pictures as you want without eating up precious on-board storage.

This morning SanDisk released its new Connect Wireless Stick. This drive has a refreshed design, lower price point and is now available with up to 128GB. I’ve been using it for the past few days. Read on to find out my first impressions of it:

SanDisk’s behemoth 200GB microSD is now in-stock and ready to ship

SanDisk unveiled its 200GB microSD card a few months back at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. At that time we were given an estimated street date of Q2 2015 and an MSRP of $399.99. Well, this giant microSD just became available for purchase from Amazon for $239.02.

It features transfer speeds of up to 90MB/s and packs enough storage to accommodate up to 20 hours of full HD video. By no means is this card necessary for average consumers, but professionals with a big tech budget may be able to justify it. MicroSD cards make for great additions to phones and digital cameras for storing photos, videos or apps and can be even be added to MacBooks with one of these adapters. SanDisk’s 128GB version priced at $78.99 is the smarter purchase for most people.

SanDisk’s 200GB beauty is currently the “world’s highest capacity microSD card,” but that may soon change since Microdia already detailed its plans for a 512GB card.

SanDisk’s groundbreaking microSD card will stuff an extra 200GB in your MacBook, smartphone, GoPro, more

SanDisk has taken the wraps off “the world’s highest capacity microSD card.” Packed with 200GB of speedy flash storage, the SanDisk Ultra microSDXC Premium Edition card represents a jump of 56% over the previous record holder. It can move data at up to 90MB/s, which SanDisk says is fast enough to transfer up to 1,200 photos per minute.

A 200GB microSD card is an eye-popping achievement. Just consider that it’s more space than many people’s laptops and more than 150% larger than the biggest available iPhone. Slide it into your Android smartphone or tablet, GoPro, and other portable gadgets and you’ll instantly have access to a massive amount of storage.

This is also big news for Mac users. We’ve shared with you just how easy it is to upgrade MacBook Air/Retina MacBook Pro laptops with a microSD card. Using the same method of
putting SanDisk’s new microSD card into a custom MacBook adapter, you’ll now be able to add 200GB of semi-permnenant storage to your Mac.

The 200GB model isn’t due to hit stores until Q2 this year and will be priced at $399.99.

My recommendation? If you aren’t in dire need of that much space, just buy last years 128GB model for $100.

At Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, SanDisk has just announced a new accessory that will make many Android users very happy. The company has unveiled the world’s first ever 128GB microSD card. SanDisk does note, however, that the card is “designed for Android” and will be fully compatible with many Android devices. In addition to this new 128GB card, SanDisk will also be updating its “Memory Zone” app for Android, which allows users to easily and access files stored on microSD cards. The app also allows users to back up content to it and free-up internal device memory. A new “OptiMem” will automatically transfer older photos on a device to external memory.

The availability of 128GB microSD cards also signals that we could soon start seeing Android devices with 128GB of internal storage. This would be a big upgrade, especially when the operating system on many devices takes up more than 6GB of space.
